Today Zymoran and I have successfully played the standalone through network. The multiplayer is already functional.
Another useful feature is the Steam server list - that will make hosting and joining the games very simple (and everyone has Steam anyway).
The game has most of the core features (it was possible to play).
Now I am going to add some missing parts of UI, a basic team-shuffle mode and some spells.
When that is finished, there will be a public alpha.
